I hiked to Turner Peak (alt. 13,232 feet), the peak on the right in the photo above.
I started at Cottonwood Pass and hiked along the divide towards the east. I ascended
an unnamed 12,800' point and came down to this saddle before ascending back up towards
Turner Peak. This spot is part of the continental divide and sadly does not have a name!
Above is the view facing south (east side of the divide). Jones Mountain is
the mountain in the front. One could walk down the grassy area and into the forest,
and would eventually reach Chaffee County Road 306 ("Cottonwood Pass Road") in that canyon.
And above is the view to the north (west side of the divide). That
valley is part of the South Texas Creek drainage and is in Gunnison County, Colorado. Those tall peaks in the foreground also serve as the continental divide; The divide curves to the east in this area before turning west and eventually "straightening out" to the north.
Lastly, here's the view of the peaceful-looking pass as I looked west.
I came down that grassy and snowy slope from Cottonwood Pass to reach this point. It is a very pretty area!
